Across from the Information Desk there are four two auto-logon kiosk computers.
*Please note, there are fewer computers available due to COVID-19 safety precautions.* The Information Commons is on the basement level and contains twelve iMacs, ten NetID or YNHH logon computers, two auto-logon Kiosks, and six monitor stations for laptop use.
24/7 Computer & Study Space is on the basement level - access is through the library's main corridor whenever the library is open. When the library is closed, it can be accessed through an outside door in the back corridor off the main Sterling Hall of Medicine stairway. A Yale University ID card and NetID credentials are required to enter the room and logon to the computers. Medical Library computers are only approved for accessing Low Risk Data. Please consult the Yale Data Security page to learn more about levels of Data Security at Yale. Data should never be stored on Medical Library computers.
There are two scanning stations in the 24/7 Computer & Study Space: a Windows computer and an iMac. There is also a Windows scanning station outside of the Computer Support Center.
The Library has a laptop computer loaner program exclusively for use by Medical Center students. These computers may be used in the library or can be checked out for up to five days at a time.

WiFi
All areas of the Medical Library have excellent wireless coverage.
Wifi is available in all University buildings. University faculty, students, and staff should only use YaleSecure. Yale's wifi options include: - YaleSecure -YaleSecure is the recommended, encrypted wifi network. To use YaleSecure, enter your NetID and password when prompted. If you have trouble try the YaleSecure Connection Assistant.
- YaleGuest - The guest wireless network is a limited, unencrypted wireless data network provided for guests of the University only.
- Eduroam - Individuals from Yale traveling to other participating institution may use the eduroam network by authenticating with their Yale credentials. The logon format is username@home university and the example for Yale would be '[email protected]'.
- Yale wireless - To use Yale wireless, you must register your computer or device.
Wired Network Access
Wired Ethernet jacks are available in several locations within the Medical Library. Wired connections provide faster connectivity than wireless and users who want to transfer large amounts of data may notice better speed and performance on a wired connection. MAC Address registration is required for this connection type.
The Library lends laptop computers for Medical Center student use. Eligible borrower groups include students in the MD, PA, EPH, Nursing and BBS programs on the Medical Campus. Faculty, staff and students from other programs are not able to use this service. These laptops are not HIPAA Compliant devices and ePHI should not be stored or accessed on them.

How to Check Out a Laptop
A laptop may be checked out of the Library for five days and is available on a first-come/first served basis through the Circulation Desk of the Medical Library. For fair use, laptops may not be renewed. Once a laptop is returned after a 5-day loan period, a one-day wait period will be applied before another laptop can be loaned out to the same student.
Students will need to complete a quick Student Laptop-Borrow Responsibility Form (SLBRF) in order to check out a laptop. This outlines the basic user agreements and policies for borrowing a laptop. Once an SLBRF is filled out, it is kept on file in the Circulation Office for one month. You will need to complete an SLBRF every time you check out a laptop.
At the time of checkout and again at the time of return, the student and a library staff member will check the contents of the laptop bag to ensure that all components are present and/or accounted for.
